Issue Adding Cpanel Server

Fresh Roasted Hosting

Question

Hi all,

We're trying to assist a client add a cPanel server to his new Blesta installation (the server his site is actually hosted on). When trying to add it, we get the following error message:

A connection to the server could not be established. Please check to ensure that the Hostname, User Name, and Remote Key are correct.

I can confirm that the hostname, username, and remote key are in fact correct.

Any ideas as to how we can troubleshoot?

Thanks!

The hostname should not contain protocol or port, just something like "server.host.name". If "Use SSL" is checked, it will attempt to connect to cPanel/WHM on port 2087 over HTTPS. If not, port 2086 over HTTP. Please ensure these ports are open at the firewall egress.

Also make sure that CURL SSL is in your PHP.

It's more obscure, but some people have had DNS resolution issues on their servers, so you could check for that also.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply!

I've checked all of that and it appears to be fine - hostname is the main server hostname, use SSL is checked, both ports are opened (the site is hosted on the same server that it is trying to connect to), and curl SSL is enabled. Also, I've confirmed the DNS is all fine.

Any other ideas as to how we can troubleshoot this?

Are they using root or a reseller user? If a reseller user, the user may not have enough permissions. Have you checked the cPanel/WHM logs? I don't recall what the log file is called, but it may be in /usr/local/cpanel/logs or /var/log/ or /var/log/cpanel.
