Posted September 26, 2015 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 Hi everyone, today I received an email with some unfortunate news that ModulesBakery is going to close their business by the end of October. I don't know what this will mean for me and other customers. They are saying that they will send us the source code for the module we purchased but I am not a developer so there isn't much I can do with it. I must admit I was skeptical about buying Cpanel Extended and look what happened to them, then ModulesBakery came alone with Tasty Cpanel module and it looked promising and so this time I decided to make the investment. And I am calling it an investment because it's not just the money spent but also the time to change settings and edit email templates and test and so on. I feel like the best way forward would be for me to return to the stock Blesta Cpanel module but I am not even sure whether simply back tracking my steps would work or result in catastrophic failure. Actually i need ModulesBakery to take care DigitalOcean module on blesta . But ModulesBakery going close, how about the DigitalOcean module for the future? We can continue using the tasty cPanel module but what will happen if cPanel or blesta make a big upgrade and the module need to be update too. Is very sad to hear that they are closing but hopefully someone else will take they work and continue offering that solution because it works great. * Any one knows about other solution for cPanel module for blesta that we can use as a backup? The original plan is to provide the source code to the license holders only so they can at least be able to improve them as they need, however, if there are many requests for open sourcing them so other developers can support it and improve it further, well, i have no problem with that. The original plan is to provide the source code to the license holders only so they can at least be able to improve them as they need, however, if there are many requests for open sourcing them so other developers can support it and improve it further, well, i have no problem with that. I think you should open-source everything you have, except those that have had clients insist on you transferring the rights to the code to them. That way developers and even yourself can continue working on the developed plugins and modules. Why let all of your work go to waste? Those that need the modules will use them and those that can work on the modules to keep them updated, can and will do so. There's no real reason to not open-source everything all at once. kpmedia Posted September 26, 2015 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 This is why I never rely on third-party plugins, mods and themes -- especially anything paid (and ESPECIALLY anything obfuscated). I learned that lesson a decade ago. The whole "not releasing it, hmpf" attitude is a major reason why. It reminds me of a child: "If I can't have it, nobody can!" So it's nice to see a developer realize that open-sourcing it is needed. Otherwise the dev is really just screwing over existing clients. Blesta Addons Posted September 26, 2015 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 is a bad news, but if mujahed need help in anything we are here . what i suggest is blesta staff negoce with mujahed to get the source code of their plugins, as others can fix/update the code if needed like the cpanel extended . but why is closing ? is the blesta market is not rentable anymore ? or there are some new road of business ? @sixwishlist , the real lesson here if for blesta team , no dev can support blesta for long term if they not change the target market . the HOSTING industry is the only market that can help blesta grow and grow , for so months ago we request blesta team to take care about hosting market like the domain management , the order form for hosting also . competitor has grow not by the core software , but the module/plugins they have by them or third party , another example is PauloV, it was so happy with the core code and has and still providing plugins/modules for free , like me , just to provide more option to the clients and encourage them switching/using blesta , now is less active , because the main feature he/and me and so others need it not exist after so many months , a better domain management and a good order form for hosting industry . i'm not against blesta , but blesta should learn what other say about them , and do what the people need (other can call it cloning functions from others , i call it add the defaults futures ) . serge and ariq01 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Even if he wanted to, it is not a given a developer can continue working on any IT projects in his spare time, after accepting a job at a larger company. I totally agree with this comment, blesta as billing and support platform for hosting providers need to focus more in develop tools that can be useful for us like having a robust cPanel module and a good domain management module at least. Not depending on third party modules or plugins that others developers offer for free will be a key point. Off course I really appreciate the hard work that others developers do and the time they spent to share with us their work but sometimes is not enough. We have to be aware that their contribution is free and depends of how much free time they have to work on that. I will be happy and I think most of the people will agree with me, that we prefer to pay a monthly fee to blesta knowing that they can provide us these tools that we need instead of breaking our head trying to figure out how to find a solution for our needs. I also think they will need to promote their platform with more developers around the world that want to code additional features for their system, because right now is very hard to find developers that knows the platform. I love blesta and I migrate from whmcs to them a couple of years ago, but having this lack of modules, plugin is not god. Sometime I hate to think that I have to go back to whmcs because blesta don't have at least the basic tools that a hosting providers need. Blesta needs to rely less on plugins. The main selling point in 2013 was that "Blesta is more secure". Well, no, not really. Core might be, but plugins are not being audited. Plugins are being developed because core is somewhat feature-less compared to WHMCS (and Hostbill and ClientExec). And hosts will not be migrating to Blesta in this current state. It's simply not going to happen. Blesta has potential that it's not living up to. So hosts aren't buying it*. No use, no sales = Blesta fails, dies, and that's the end of that. I've been online a long time -- probably before some of you were even born. I'm NOT exaggerating, and have seen this story play out too many times.- The UI is important. Right now, the default UI is confusing as hell for customers. People are generally not that smart ("HELP!!! CANT FIND PAYMNT BUTTON!!!111"), and even I've been had by two UI quirks. The buttons and linking are horrible, and UX gets an "F" (maybe a D- if I'm generous). - The admin area is important. That menu is awful. You have to click and tap extra times (and wait for yet another page to load) to do what should be less cumbersome. It reminds me of those BS sites that say "10 ways to do X" and then expect you to click through 10+ pages to read their crappy list. - Features hosts need are simply not there, or not working well. That's just the blunt truth of the matter. At this point, I really don't care who does or does not agree with me. And I do feel as if the Blesta scene is dying off already. What few of us are left are still having conversations about the same things we were in 2014. Why does it take so long to fix simple things? (Seriously, a Paypal default button image? Really?) I'm trying to fix some issues myself, and I'll post my fixes for others. (And thanks to everybody that's helped me to date.) I can use Blesta for my minor not-hosting needs. But sadly, Hostbill, WHMCS and ClientExec are the only serious choices for hosts at the moment. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting, but it appears that I'm just waiting in vain. Blesta is stalled, with only minor improvements every 6 months. * It's actually very good for non-hosting needs (potentially), and is my main desired use. We wish you the best with your new opportunity. If you are considering releasing your cPanel or other Blesta modules as open source, I think that'd be great. In fact, if you want to sign over the rights to us, we'll release it/them as free open source on Github, and consider implementing some of the extra management features into our native cPanel module. This will include the Tasty cPanel, Tasty Interworx, and DigitalOcean modules. This will allow the community to also help maintain the modules and submit pull requests to us for new features, fixes, or improvements. We may also bring in some of the advanced management functionality into our official modules, and we *may* completely take over and fully support and maintain the digital ocean module.
