While FontAwesome is built to be used with Bootstrap, its not required. I use FontAwesome in various projects, but not Bootstrap.

I use FontAwesome in various projects, but not Bootstrap. I think Paul was commenting on the use of bootstrap in the design, not related to the icon itself.
