Are Transactions Created On All Payments Made?

I'm just wondering are transactions created for ANY payments the user makes or payments recorded or made via admin as well? ...even if the payment is partial? What if it isn't attached to an invoice?

A transaction will exist for all payments. Either a new one is created, or another is used (e.g. apply credits).

What if it isn't attached to an invoice?

A transaction exists regardless of an invoice. In this case it would be a credit on the client's account.

If you look at the transactions in the billing area, it shows all recorded payments, regardless of whether they partially pay an invoice, pay several or just added as credit. I would guess that the events would be the same.
