Verified Paypal

I've always wanted this on every billing system I've used (WHM** and now Blesta) but none have this functionality, so it would be cool if Blesta did it first .

I've always wanted to accept orders from Verfied users as it's a sign of trust. However the system's don't have it. Maybe this could be a big selling point to get people to move.

I found this API: https://cms.paypal.com/mx/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=developer/e_howto_api_ACGetVerifiedStatusAPI

Not sure if it will work outside the box with the current API Blesta uses, but if you tick the box on the gateway eg:

[ ] Accept from Verified Only.

Then only users passed as Verified can place orders.

Or:

[ ] Manually approve unverified accounts.

[ ] Accept from Verified Only.

Just a idea but I would love this myself. Thread gossip over at: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1325062 about Unverified accounts.

Edit: Maybe a small verified paypal badge on their account profile:

In all honesty, whenever we get fraud with paypal it is often with a verified account.

It's not at unusual for someone with a verified paypal account to get hacked, and their account is used for bad things (like signing up for web hosting account and then sending spam or porn or whatever).

In my opinion, a "verified" paypal account is just as likely to be fraud as any other payment method (except bitcoin).

Yes I agree, but it takes a member longer to get verified with the security checks PayPal use. And anyone can get a paypal account. I've not had any fraud yet, but most 99.9% of the time it's non verified on the WHT thread.

The problem here is that as far as I can tell, there is no way to prevent a user from submitting payments to your paypal account (via Blesta or what have you). So unless the option exists in your PayPal account to only allow verified users to submit payment I can't see how we can prevent those payments from being deposited.

PayPal doesn't offer a way to say "oh, hey, that payment you just sent me... I don't want it." The only thing that could possibly be done is after receiving the payment, check the verified status of the account, and if not verified then issue a refund. That seems sloppy to me. I'd expect PayPal to offer an option in your PayPal account that says "only accept payments from verified accounts." Only PayPal has the capability of preventing a user from submitting payment. It's outside of our control.

Ah I see mate, maybe a way like you explained:

Payment made --> Check if it's verified --> "Yes" --> Makes the service active "else no" --> Makes the service as pending (Green tick) --> Shows message to user "Your PayPal account isn't verified, please allow the billing department a few hours to check the payment and manually accept the order after a few security checks. We apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience." Or something much better than my content lol.
