Just read through some of the posts in that WHT thread... they were using MD5 passwords?!! Seriously. They might as well be plain text. We switched to bcrypt, HMAC-SHA-256 hashes in Blesta 3.0 years ago and wrote about it a year before v3 was released here - http://www.blesta.com/2012/08/17/blesta-3-0-more-on-security-video-2/

Nobody learns, and big companies like Penton have no excuses. They have the means.

Last time I cheked it is not just WHT but complete databases from 4 of 5 Penton's websites....all user data from these 4 websites are available....e-mails,usernames, ..and other profile fields stored in DB ..  till now about 60% of passwords are decrypted..the rest is not decrypted yet..probably passwords from users who used harder passwords
I read  somewhere that all user will have to use reset pass link but I didn't see it on published on WHT but I couldn't log in with mine so I suppose it is true..
To be hones when you lok all penton's sites...one wordpress 3.9 second W.P 4.x.x version , vBulletin 4...must feel like in museum, maybe this is not reason but just fact that they use outdated version will make them targeted much more  .
I understand that such big user base is not easy to upgrade but they should have resouce for this..or they just worry for income..

Here is the full story, I asked to close the ticket bacause its nonsense what they are implying
Paulo Vidal Posted On: May 24 2016 7:45 AM Hello, Can you explain what do you mean "since you receive financial recompense from Blesta" how the hell I have recived any compensation???? are you real? sorry but you should reconsider the warning. And also this "you may not promote them as you have done", really? Can you escalate this to bear? He knows me better and I think he can confirm what Im saying. Im not Self-Promotion I didn't publish any information regardin my product or service I didn't publish any future (possible) products or services I didn't suggest any of my own services Im not a partner of Blesta Im not an employ of blesta I dont ever recived any compensation from Blesta. I think you should reconsider the warning and the deletion of my responses on WHT. Regards, Paulo Vidal :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Andy Posted On: May 24 2016 8:04 AM Hi Paulo, > Can you explain what do you mean "since you receive financial recompense from Blesta" Taken from your signature over there: "Donations Recived until now: Blesta (Phillips Data, Inc.)". > sorry but you should reconsider the warning. Maybe you could taking the above into consideration and how it relates to the rule we quoted in the alert. > Can you escalate this to bear? No need - Any moderator assigned this section of the helpdesk can pick the ticket up, view the history, and respond. It makes for a better throughput. > Im not a partner of Blesta > Im not an employ of blesta > I dont ever recived any compensation from Blesta. Your signature on the Blesta forum clearly indicates your close ties with them, and shows that you receive a pecuniary advantage by developing products for or alongside them. Given that close financial relationship you cannot promote or "talk good" about them here as specifically mentioned in the second sentence of the rule: "This includes, but not limited to suggesting your own services, or services of partners, clients, employers or friends.". Let us know if you have any other questions. Regards, Andy aka 'Postbox' Community Leader :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Paulo Vidal Posted On: May 24 2016 8:16 AM Hello Andy Sorry but my Blesta Signature dosent have to do anything with compensations. Donations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donation Compensations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_compensation Like I said Im a programmer, and Like I said on almost all my replies, We on the company still use WHMCS but we are migrating to Blesta. How can you judge a person by a signature in outher foruns? Its like to use "Google" to make a point, my signature dosent have anyting to do with my Reply on WHT Foruns. Its really unfair. Hope you reconsider, since Im a member since 2004, and its the second warning since then, and this warning is not breaking any rules, I have learned since my first warning that bear explain me to read the rules, and I have readed and Im not breaking any. Thanks in advance, Paulo Vidal :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Andy Posted On: May 24 2016 8:53 AM Hi Paulo, > Sorry but my Blesta Signature dosent have to do anything with compensations. Does it not clearly state that you've received monies from Blesta (and others)? That creates a financially-influenced relationship between you and your donors, which puts them into the category of your "partners, clients, employers or friends.". > How can you judge a person by a signature in outher foruns? Its like to use "Google" to make a point, my signature dosent have anyting to do with my Reply on WHT Foruns. In just the same way as I could Google someone to see if they're an employee of a company, own a domain, live at this or that address, or used to go to such-and-such university. It's all freely available public information, and can be used to help form the decisions that we make. I'm sure that you do the same, right? Or are you claiming that the information contained in your signature over there is actually untrue? > this warning is not breaking any rules I beg to differ. Aside from the principle one that brought this discussion about, you included in your post: "you will see many developpers like me sharing Plugins, Modules, Extension for free, helping blesta to grow." Beside being self-promotional, another rule applies to that which I'll quote below for you for future reference: "You may only discuss details about your company and/or product offerings when the thread starter or poster has made direct reference to your company and stated something untrue or misleading, or something which clearly needs clarifying. The response must be in direct reference to the point discussed only and contain no added promotional information and/or fluff. It is advisable when in the above scenario to contact us first." I really hate him now hope he rots in hell in the future he doesn't deserve to go in heaven for being a bias sad idiot who doesn't understand donate. Let's hope he never ever comes to the UK. If he did and he "donated" to the Children in need, and his name went up on TV saying thank you. I would slag him off on WHT and claim he had a "financially-influenced relationship" with a charity in the UK.

There's no need to get upset about what happened. It sounds like the moderator over there has just misinterpreted donations to equate to financial compensation that categorize our relationship as a partner, client, employer, or friend, per his statement:
    > Sorry but my Blesta Signature dosent have to do anything with compensations. Does it not clearly state that you've received monies from Blesta (and others)? That creates a financially-influenced relationship between you and your donors, which puts them into the category of your "partners, clients, employers or friends.". We don't belong to any of those categories, so the statement's conclusion is false.

I would also argue that the statement's premise is false as well, since contributions do not always imply financial influence between parties.

He seems to have acknowledged that that argument was falling apart, so he came up with another to reaffirm his stance:
    > this warning is not breaking any rules I beg to differ. It is advisable when in the above scenario to contact us first." The last statement is vague and open-ended, which gives them leeway to do whatever they want. I guess you'll have to sit in the penalty box for a little while.

Wow, because we donated a few dollars to you? We gave you some money as a thank you for contributing to the community with no expectation of anything in return. If influence is so easy to buy, maybe we should "donate" more often to more people.

Thanks for sharing. It seems like they also removed that post by lonea.. where you quoted a "hack job"... really... I kind of wish that were still up there so I could respond. Sure seems he is out to get us, and I'm not surprised since he makes money from whmcs.. he shouldn't be allowed to post negative things about us given that fact.

All I ask for is honesty, whether a good review or a bad review, if it's honest that's all that matters. When we don't get things right, we want to know about it so we can improve.

Andy is really getting to be a tosser, he used to be ok until he changed his name. Donations are normally a one off and not paid but donations is he really that thick. I hope he reads this because he really is a cunt. There's a 42 year old guy called "twhiting9275"  who is allowed to slag Blesta off in any post he wants. But he used to work with WHMCS.

Now if that was me and you, we would be flagged up and banned / infracted but he can willing and freely do it. Double standards and they know it.
